Blackburn Leisure Centre

External Inspirational Mural

Working in association with Blackburn council and Blackburn college we developed, produced and installed an over-sized wall mural at the newly developed Blackburn Leisure Centre. The brief required us to create a solution to produce and install a weather resistant, full colour, printed wall mural that would contour into the surface of the brick work, whilst allowing it to be removed at a later date.

It was imperative that the brick work remained intact and no permanent markings, fixtures or fittings allowing the graphics to be updated and completely removed throughout different periods.

We were proud to be one of the first in the UK to take advantage of a revolutionary new signage material and application technique that allows graphics to be applied into the recesses of rough and contoured surfaces. Typically these hard to adhere to surfaces would require a solid substrate such as a composite metal or acrylic based board, this usually requires permanent fixings leaving drill holes and markings. Such materials also limit the complexities of the designs outer contour cut edge due to the additional cost occurred due to the added time during production and installation. Working with aluminium wrapping films the possibilities are endless and allows for a swift installation with little disruption to the working environment in the surrounding areas.

Working at heights of over 12 metres and travelling a horizontal distance of 20 metres access was required to the whole expanse of wall. The team needed to work efficiently in a cost effective manner, therefore powered access scissor lifts were utilised to enable a safe yet accessible working platform. Watch the videos here to see how the whole thing was piece together come rain or shine.

Before the installation all the panels were laid out on the sports hall to ensure they could be easily packaged and labeled numerically to ensure the application ran like clockwork. Extensive planning, professional working methods, appropriate training and rigorous health and safety checks are at the forefront of everything we do. We believe that safety of both the public and our team is of utmost importance and is always reviewed in great detail before any work commences.
